The wind was already blowing hard when I woke. I could hear voices outside the boat through the small gap I had left under the v-berth hatch. I heard Andrew moving in the cabin and I got up to make breakfast. Andrew was using the rainy day to get quotes for a new mainsail. I handed Caly off to the excited kids who had  been waiting outside for her, the voices I had heard earlier.

I grabbed my laptop and walked up to the library to process photos and do some trip research. While I was up there, Andrew was talking with the Canada Border Services Agency, who must have been alerted to three cruisers in Lockeport somehow. They checked our paperwork and left three crews speculating as to how they had decided to drive to the tiny town of Lockeport.

Andrew came up and joined me in the library before we walked back to the boat for lunch. While we were sitting out of the rain below deck, Julien came over and had a look at Isla, fortunately after Andrew had tidied up a bit. He invited us to dinner and not long after we all walked up to the a cafe with a Wednesday fish ‘n’ chips special. Julien and Nina were both marine biologists, French and German, respectively, and had met studying in Hawaii. Their kids switched between English, French, and German with ease. The family planned to cruise in the South Pacific in the near future.

The cafe turned out to be more of a billiards bar, and after our meals I discovered how much my eight ball skills had regressed since leaving the Intel rec room behind. Léo was thoroughly disappointed by our loss to his dad and sister. We spent the rest of the night on Andromède, sharing stories, anchorages, sailing apps, and drinks with all three crews. We finally put our one bottle of red wine to good use.
